While the global energy transition is moving towards renewable energy, coal-fired power generation continues to play a crucial role in ensuring grid stability, especially in regions with limited alternative energy resources. According to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) 2024 Energy Outlook, coal-fired power plants remain critical for maintaining energy reliability in these regions. The Xinjiang Shitoumei 2*1000 MW coal-fired power plant, which began operation in January 2024, is a prime example. Designed to power 1.5 million homes, the plant faces severe environmental challenges, including winter temperatures as low as -25°C and summer temperatures as high as 40°C, as well as frequent dust storms characteristic of the region's arid climate.
For this demanding project, Anhui Jinhong Cable undertook the task of providing specialized cables designed specifically for these harsh environments. The company offers the following high-performance cable solutions:
Given the power plant's remote location and the need to transport 3,000 kilometers of cables in the arid Xinjiang region, logistics presented significant challenges. To protect the cables from UV radiation and sandstorms during transport, Jinhong employed sealed, temperature-controlled trucks to ensure the integrity of the cable sheaths and prevent damage before installation.
Since its commissioning, the Shitoumei Power Plant has maintained 95% full-load operation, playing a vital role in Xinjiang's industrial development. Notably, thanks to the power plant's stable power supply, local textile factories have reduced downtime by 30%. After undergoing eight months of extreme environmental testing, the cables supplied by Jinhong showed no performance degradation, demonstrating their superior durability and performance.
This project not only showcased Jinhong's expertise in providing ruggedized energy infrastructure cables but also solidified the company's position in the key market segment of extreme climate regions. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), 40% of the world's power plants are located in such environments. With the success of this project, Jinhong secured two more energy contracts in Xinjiang, further expanding its market share in the growing market for extreme environment power solutions.
