The Xinjiang Tianshan Northern Foothills New Energy Base Project is a key national power project under the 14th Five-Year Plan and a core supporting facility for the "Xinjiang to Chongqing" strategy. Developed and constructed by Xinjiang Renewable Energy Power Development Co., Ltd., the project is a large-scale integrated energy base combining wind power, photovoltaic power, solar thermal power generation, and energy storage. Located in the heart of the Hami Gobi Desert in Xinjiang, the base has a total installed capacity of 4100 MW, including 2800 MW of wind power, 1200 MW of photovoltaic power, 100 MW of solar thermal power, and a supporting energy storage capacity of 800 MW/3200 MWh.
As a landmark green power project in the "sand-gobi-arid" region, this project transmits clean electricity to central China via the Hami-Chongqing ±800kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission line, with an average annual grid-connected power generation of 9.786 billion kilowatt-hours. This will significantly optimize the national energy allocation and reduce carbon emissions by 7.61 million tons annually. The project requires highly reliable, flame-retardant, corrosion-resistant, and weather-resistant medium-voltage cables to cope with the extreme environmental conditions of the Gobi Desert, such as large temperature differences, strong winds, sandstorms, and drought.
